Hello, my name is Alyssa. Welcome to Cheap Face!
I wanted to give some background on who I am and why I am starting this blog.
Currently, I am a college student at SUNY Fredonia.
I am majoring in Journalism and PR with a minor in English. I am also the Life & Arts Editor for The Leader, SUNY Fredonia’s only student-run newspaper.
My Myers-Briggs personality type is ENFJ-T. Also, if you are into astrology, I am a Cancer sun, Aries moon and Taurus rising (sigh… so many emotions).
I’m originally from Cuba, NY— a cute but somewhat claustrophobic town.
I found it somewhat hard to express myself growing up in a town with a whopping 3,000 residents.
But I ended up becoming interested in makeup after watching beauty influencers on YouTube.
I admired how creative some of their looks were. I also enjoyed watching the process of these YouTubers doing their makeup.
That hobby has not faded. In fact, some of my favorite YouTubers currently are Bailey Sarian, Smokey Glow, amandabb and Too Much Mouth.
However, I didn’t seriously start getting into makeup until about a year ago, right before COVID-19 hit.
But because of quarantine, I started doing makeup more often to keep myself occupied.
Going from living on campus to moving back home with my parents was definitely not a part of my plan for 2020, but it gave me some time to start a new hobby.
I hated feeling confined in a town with only two stoplights in high school, and then I ended up having to go back home for nearly two semesters.
But there wasn’t much else to do, so I started practicing makeup looks fairly often.
No longer being tied down to a high school social hierarchy, I decided it was about time I started looking how I wanted to.
With time and practice, I ended up getting better. However, I would still consider my skills to be average.
However, I began to realize that I, as a broke college student and a very anxious spender, don’t have the capabilities to buy the best-of-the-best makeup.
But then it hit me— why should I have to?
Just because most mainstream beauty influencers try to shove expensive yet unnecessary makeup products down my throat doesn’t mean I need to buy them.
So instead of wasting money on a $30 Nars blush, I realized Milani blush is just as good for $8.
I don’t think I am the only makeup user out there that can’t bear the price tag of luxurious makeup.
And I am tired of feeling like I should.
With this blog, I want to invite you to comment any topics you would like to have covered and any praises or even criticisms you have.
Also, if at any time you would like to have a conversation privately, feel free to email me at [email protected].
Just remember— by no means am I an expert. I simply want to have fun and explore the world of cheap makeup.
And I hope you do, too.
I love the idea of using affordable makeup and finding the best products that are offered. Some of my favorite products are actually sold at drug stores and I will stick to using them rather than buying higher priced items that are not as good. Im looking forward to what you have to offer and show!
I love your blog! I personally have tried almost every single brand of makeup there is, from drugstore to expensive name brand, and I always find my way back to drugstore. That is not only because of the price but the quality as well. Trending on TikTok is so many amazing drugstore makeup that is amazing quality. Great post.
