Everything College: Getting Involved

Going into college a bigger fear is not knowing how you will meet people.

It’s scary going into a new environment alone and nervous but excited.

Getting involved is like diving into the water, staying in your room is the surface.

Colleges offer clubs and organizations students can join.

This introduces you to new people and new experiences.

My school hosts “Activities Night” introducing students to all the clubs and activities on campus.

Find what interests you and try it out, you’d be surprised how much fun they can be.

In my freshman year, I knew I wanted to join club soccer because I love the sport and staying active.

I loved meeting new people who shared my interests and also loved playing the game.

Throughout my years playing club soccer I’ve met people that are my friends now.

As a junior, I’m now the president of the team and watch all the new connections form with the team.

I also joined the communications club on my campus because of my major.

The Applied Communication Association has introduced me to new opportunities and experiences within my major.

Along with also meeting friends within my major.

Getting involved will help you make your college experience, with the knowledge and people you meet along the way.

Being a part of clubs can also help with your resume.

I have a minor in leadership studies, and making my way up to president of my club is an example of my experience.

Being a part of a club focused on my major also shows my knowledge and interest in what I study.

Meeting people through these clubs has also been amazing because my school is on the smaller side.

Before you know someone you know who also knows this person and is roommates with this person.

The social circle just continues to grow and you feel comfortable.

My roommates have also had great experiences in clubs they have joined and have also met people along the way.

Then I get introduced to people, it keeps growing.

I’m not saying you need to be best friends with everyone you meet, but seeing familiar faces is always comforting.

You don’t need to join clubs to be involved in your school there are other ways too.

My school’s clubs and organizations are always having events, shows, etc.

Even just attending those events is getting involved with your school.

You can meet people just about anywhere.

I’ve made friends just by sitting next to strangers at the start of a semester.

By finals week you have new familiar faces and friends around campus.

Meeting people is scary but everyone is also just trying to get by like the rest of us.

People will come and go and that’s part of our existence.

I’ve had classes with people I talked to every day in that class that I haven’t seen since.

Or people who have joined clubs and decided to move on.

I believe that you meet everyone for a reason, whether that is for a few weeks or a few years.

Get involved with clubs of your interest or go to events that interest you.

Put yourself out there and you will meet amazing friends.
